The Society for Risk Analysis - Europe aims to bring together individuals and organisations interested in risk assessment, risk management and risk communication in Europe.

The Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) was founded in response to the need for an interdisciplinary society which would address emerging issues in risk analysis, management and policy. It operates world-wide with International Sections in North America, Europe and Japan. Any member of SRA who is resident in Europe is automatically a member of SRA-Europe.

The Society encourages those interested in all aspects of risk analysis to communicate, collaborate and develop new methodologies for risk analysis and risk management.SRA-E emphasises the European dimension in the promotion of interdisciplinary research and education, and in practical application in industry and Government. It provides a platform for industrialists, policy makers and academics to discuss the ‘state of the art’ and future directions in the study of risk analysis, to understand concerns about risk from both public and scientific perspectives, to promote efficient risk mitigation and to develop effective communication about hazards. It is also an opportunity for risk analysts to come together to discuss issues, problems, goals and future research questions. New areas for risk analysis are emerging and new disciplines are contributing to the ongoing debate about risk analysis and management. The Society for Risk Analysis - Europe encourages and facilitates communication among experts in all risk domains via conferences and meetings.

Membership will:

• keep you in touch with the latest research and practice, nationally and internationally; help you to become familiar with national and international policies on risk analysis;
• enable you to network and exchange ideas with professionals working on all aspects of risk.

Members of Government departments at all levels, small and large industries, academic institutions, public and private interest groups, and consultants will benefit from membership of SRA-E.

An expanding range of professional skills is being applied to risk analysis, with contributions from:

• policy makers and risk regulators
• safety officers
• natural and physical scientists
• legal experts
• social scientists
• medical experts and toxicologists
• environmental scientists
• decision analysts
• computer scientists

Membership of SRA-Europe carries automatic membership of the international Society for Risk Analysis, founded in 1981, with over 2000 members world wide. SRA-E is an international Section of SRA. Its Executive Committee has nine members, each elected for three years. Within SRA-E, national and regional Chapters or other specialty groups can be set up in response to the needs of members. All members receive the journal Risk Analysis and also the opportunity to subscribe at a reduced rate to the Journal of Risk Research the official journal of SRA-E and SRA-Japan. Members will also receive news of events and conferences world wide.

Membership is normally on an individual basis. Collective membership is also available for US$ 105 for groups of 25 individuals in European countries at an economic disadvantage.

The affairs of SRA-E are conducted by an Executive Committee, comprising eight members. The SRA-Europe Executive Committee currently comprises the following members:

The last elections for the SRA-E Executive Committee took place on 31st March 2009. For this ballot, nine candidates stood for election for four vacant positions.

The votes were counted by Olivier Salvi (Chair of the Nominations Committee) in collaboration with Roberto Bubbico (President) and Julie Barnett (Secretary).

The new elected members were::

• Lars Bodsberg (SINTEF Technology and Society, NO)

The new members of the Executive Committee started their mandate after the Business Meeting of SRA-E in Karlstad, where Dr. Ann Enander became President.

The rules and regulations applying to SRA-Europe have been laid down in the REVISED CHARTER of the EUROPEAN SECTION of the SOCIETY FOR RISK ANALYSIS (SRA-EUROPE), and in the Memorandum of Understanding SRA and SRA-Europe. They were last revised in 2007.
